Kauno menininkų namai tęsia programą „Nepadorūs vakarai | B.M.W.“, kurios tikslas – analizuoti 10-ojo dešimtmečio vyriškumo aspektus ir jų poveikį visuomenei Lietuvoje bei už jos ribų.


Lapkričio 22 d. 19 val. Ąžuolyno bibliotekos Meno ir muzikos skyriaus renginių salėje (Donelaičio g. 8, Kaunas) bus pristatytas lenkų choreografės Izos Szostak šokio performansas „Skaj is the limit“.

Šiame kūrinyje menininkė grįžta į 10-ojo dešimtmečio Lenkijos transformacijos laikotarpį – laiką, kai kasdienybė persipynė su naujos ekonomikos pažadais, o blizgesio troškimas dažnai slėpė trapumą ir praradimus. Szostak kuria savitą, nenormatyvią tikrovę, kurioje daiktai ir kūnai gyvena už laiko ribų. Čia nesėkmė ir silpnumas tampa kūrybine jėga, o netikros prabangos objektai – tyliais istorijos liudininkais.


Po 1990-ųjų Lenkijoje atsidarė sienos, išlaisvinta vaizduotė. Atsirado nauji televizijos kanalai, laisvoji rinka, o visuomenę užliejo sėkmės mitologija – aštri ir blizganti kaip „Tiger Safety“ skustuvo peiliukas. Tie, kurie turėjo elegantišką portfelį, sabalo kailinius ar galingą automobilį, tapo naujos eros simboliais. Kiti tenkinosi plastikiniais krištolo šviestuvais ar dirbtinės odos sofa – vadinama skaj – su priderintu pufu.


Performanse „Skaj is the limit“ transformacija suprantama kaip pereinamasis, neapibrėžtas laikas – kai senoji sistema jau nebegalioja, o naujoji dar tik formuojasi. Ši būsena paliečia viską: visuomenės kūną, politinį kūną ir fizinį kūną.

Kaunas Artists' House continues its multifaceted program "Obscene West I B.M.W.", which aims to analyze aspects of masculinity in the 1990s and their impact on society in Lithuania and beyond.


On November 22 at 7 PM, the Art and Music Department Hall of the Ąžuolynas Library (Donelaičio g. 8, Kaunas) will host Polish choreographer Iza Szostak’s dance performance “Skaj is the limit.”

In this work, Szostak revisits the social and cultural transformations of the 1990s in Poland — a time when everyday life intertwined with the promises of a new economy, and the desire for glamour often concealed fragility and loss. The artist creates a non-normative reality where objects and bodies exist beyond time. Here, failure and weakness become creative forces, and fake luxury items emerge as quiet witnesses of history.


After 1990, Poland opened its borders and imagination. New television channels appeared, the free market took hold, and society was swept up in the myth of success — sharp and gleaming like a “Tiger Safety” razor blade. Those who owned an elegant briefcase, a sable coat, or a powerful car became symbols of a new era. Others made do with plastic crystal chandeliers and faux-leather sofas — known in Polish as skaj — complete with matching ottomans.


In “Skaj is the limit,” transformation is understood as a transitional, uncertain state — a moment when the old system no longer functions, and the new one has yet to take hold. It is a condition that affects everything: the social body, the political body, and the physical body alike.
